Voluntourism

What is Voluntourism?

Loosely defined, it is travel with the intent to volunteer. While not a new avenue for travel, the niche is starting to pick up speed within the industry. Whether you travel somewhere for months or a few days to volunteer, travelers are finding value in giving time and resources to other countries. One such way to travel is with the cruise line Fathom. Their ship, the Fathom Adonia, is a beautiful and classic liner and has 2 itineraries it travels out of Miami, Florida. One is a cultural immersion week in Cuba, the other is Impact Travel in the Dominican Republic. I was able to sail the inaugural sailing of the Dominican Republic itinerary in April of 2016 and had a phenomenal time. Here I have given a detail account of my week aboard the Adonia and I highly recommend travelers to consider the voyage.

From faith-based groups, home school coops and individual families, there is something for everyone on this trip. Times to relax and enjoy each other's company and times to roll up your sleeves and get dirty planting trees or laying concrete floors. So what are you waiting for? Call me and I will be more than happy to tell you about my adventure and how you can book one for your group or family.
